Luke 13:6-9
6 He also spoke this parable: “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7 Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, ‘Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it ]use up the ground?’ 8 But he answered and said to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. 9 And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can cut it down.’ ”
This parable is like many of us, God invests in us, blessed us and gave us all we need in life. He gave us spiritual and physical blessings made us comfortable in life so we can be a witness for him. God is now looking to reap from his investment in us but what does he see; a fruitless tree, a barren land. We sometimes turn God’s blessing to the very excuse for not doing his bidding. Every unprofitable servant will be caught off. God is full of mercy and gracious, slow to anger and rich in love Psalm 103:8, Psalm 145:8 God’s compassion is at work that is why we have not been cut off. Let’s realize that whatever you have or whoever you become in life is so God’s purpose for your life may be fulfilled. Notice how a verdict will be issued after that one year of grace is complete, the tree will be cut off. This is purely grace, being given the extra year is totally mercy speaking. However, God expects us to bear fruit for him. God expects to reap investment from your life.
Action point: How can I be fruitful? What three things can I do to be a fruit?
